Frenzel Goggles, Video Frenzel Goggles, Video Frenzel Devices

Earlier, we mentioned the two kinds of Frenzel goggles: optical and video. But what does that mean?  

• Optical Frenzel goggles are considered the more “basic” of the two options and usually come with a lower price tag attached. These Frenzel goggles don’t track the eye, nor do they produce tracings of the eyes’ movements. These Frenzel goggles don’t produce a tangible report either and instead, require the physician to observe and record their own findings. Optical Frenzel goggles usually encompass the following features:
• Used as a balance assessment and/or vestibular rehabilitation tool
• No camera or ability to record eye movements
• Essentially are optical magnifying glasses with lighting
• Lower cost 

• Video Frenzel goggles are the “deluxe” option as they do track the patient’s eyes and produce tracings of the eyes’ movements. They also enable physicians to record the patient’s eye movements and generate a tangible report utilizing the integrated software. Video Frenzel goggles usually possess the following features: 
• Used as a balance assessment and/or vestibular rehabilitation tool
• Essentially are optical magnifying glasses with lighting
• Have one-camera (monocular) or two-camera (binocular) configurations
• Records a video file of eye movements for physician observation
• Higher cost

Frenzel goggles are not usually used in residential or personal applications and will always require a physician’s input for proper diagnosis and treatment plan(s).
