The UPack Universal Backpack Carrier from Universal Vests allows caregivers to comfortably carry a patient up to 100 pounds on their front or back without putting strain on the lower spine; the comprehensive support system ensures the patient maintains a proper posture. Caregivers can also use any of the ten strategically-placed handles to support some of the patients weight as needed for independent ambulation, and even lift the patient from the floor in case of a fall. All three of these options also help ensure first responders can quickly retrieve patients from dangerous situations.
Patients can be supported via straps that run between the legs for a harness-like system or via the encompassing joey-style vest that acts more like a sling. A flotation belt is integrated into the UPack to help support the patient when in the pool or other water environment; this can also help reduce the risk of drowning or water inhalation and therefore protect the safety of both the patient and caregiver.
In addition to support, the UPack offers patent-pending compression that snugly supports the wearer around their chest, back, and core, with optional additional supports for everything from the neck to the legs. A wide range of both adult and pediatric sizes are available, and each vest can be tailored to suit the patient with cotton, nylon, and hybrid fabric options in 25 different color combinations. All durable, commercial-grade materials are antibacterial, antimicrobial, and mildew resistant to prevent deterioration and maintain sanitation. To uniquely customize the vest for each individual patient, a variety of accessories are also available, such as hot and cold pack sets, laundry bags, and lead lines.
Whether transitioning from wheelchair to bed or walking through the park, this multi-functioning tool provides a safe manner of mobility that is comfortable and convenient for both patient and caregiver.
