All-terrain rollators are designed for use on a variety of surfaces thanks to their rugged wheels and durable frames. These rollators are heavy-duty and can easily traverse cobblestone pavements, off-road terrains (like nature trails or sandy beaches), city streets, and more. That said, not all outdoor rollators are all-terrain capable. Many rollators will claim to be all-terrain, but they're really just outdoor rollators. Continue reading to learn more about what makes a rollator a true all-terrain rollator!

An all-terrain rollator is intended to make getting around easier for those who require walking support - regardless of age, gender, height, or weight. These rollators improve users’ quality of life by making a wider variety of venues more easily accessible. Taking walks with loved ones, enjoying activities like golfing or hiking, or simply entering and exiting stores shouldn’t be tasks that bring fear and uncertainty.

An outdoor rollator is different from an all-terrain rollator in that it's meant to be used on flat, paved outdoor surfaces (like asphalt, sidewalks, and concrete walking paths). Outdoor rollators cannot handle the rough, uneven terrain that all-terrain rollators can and shouldn't be used on these surfaces as doing so can result in an accident or injury. To keep yourself safe, be sure to only use your rollator on its intended surface(s)!

What To Look For In an All Terrain Rollator

These medial mobility devices come in a variety of sizes with different design features, allowing users to find their ideal match. Rollators are customizable through add-on items like cup holders, baskets, and cane holders; additionally, some makes and models of rollators come in a variety of color choices. The primary feature all rollators have in common is their sturdy frames. Some users prefer three wheels on their outdoor rollator rather than four. For some, having a lightweight carbon frame is more important as it’s significantly stronger than aluminum or other metals.

A thick tire tread is an important feature to look out for when researching outdoor rollators. Tires should have a thicker tread than traditional upright rollators to allow them to easily pass over wet, rocky, or bumpy surfaces.

Height range is another important factor when selecting an outdoor rollator. Most rollators are intended to accommodate individuals between 5 and 6 feet tall, with some makes and models specially meant for shorter or taller users. With an all-terrain rollator, the accessibility to adventure has never been so simple, or so close!
